| Richmond International Airport | East of downtown Richmond | Lake Monticello | Camp Friendship airstrip |
| April 10, 2004-- This was my
"long cross country" solo flight, which originated at Chesapeake Municipal
airport and took me to Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO),
Emporia-Greensville regional airport, and back home. Total distance:
291 nautical miles (335 statute miles). My course took me over Richmond to CHO. I was flying at 4,500 ft, just 1,000 ft below a solid cloud deck picking up occasional rain. I don't have any pictures of the approach to CHO...too busy flying. I fueled up at CHO, and after departing I headed southeast to Emporia. I had planned my flight to pass near Lake Monticello and Camp Friendship to scope them out for future trips. It would be great to get permission from the Camp Friendship folks to use their turf airstrip. I flew through some heavier rain enroute to Emporia, but visibility was always good enough for VFR. |
